Orchard Grove residents turned out in force for a free Dr Bike event on Saturday 27th September, with the initiative proving so popular that queues formed throughout the day.
The event saw expert mechanics offer free mini-services and safety checks for residents’ bicycles as part of the Orchard Grove Travel Plan. From slack brake cables and punctured tyres to gear adjustments, Dr Bike was on hand to help get bikes back on the road.
The enthusiasm from the community exceeded all expectations, with the team working flat out to fix as many bikes as possible on a first come, first served basis. One delighted resident shared their experience:
“I would like to leave a review. My son was very happy during his visit to Dr Bike as his bike was properly fixed. Before then, he could not ride the bike if the road sloped upward. But after Dr Bike fixed it, he was able to ride it comfortably.”
The event formed part of Somerset Council’s commitment to promoting sustainable travel options at Orchard Grove, helping residents make the most of the excellent cycling infrastructure in and around Taunton.
Lesley Todd, Orchard Grove Travel Plan Coordinator, was also available throughout the day to discuss local travel and transport options with residents, including advice on how to claim Green Travel Vouchers worth up to £250 per household.
The success of the event demonstrates the strong appetite within the Orchard Grove community for sustainable travel initiatives, and plans are already being considered for future Dr Bike visits.
