Work is now underway to create one of Orchard Grove’s new public parks. Highfield Park is one of five accessible open spaces and areas of parkland planned for the new community, and in time it will form part of a network of easily accessible green spaces running through Orchard Grove.

What will the park offer?

The park lies on the northern edge of the development and, by sitting at one of the highest points within the site, it will offer breathtaking views right out over Taunton in one direction and over the rolling Somerset countryside to the other side.

Over 8 acres in size, Highfield Park is an area of natural open space with an array of natural features that celebrate and enhance the local landscape. There will be open meadows surrounded by new native woodland, and seating and picnic areas positioned at the highest points to make the most of the stunning panoramic views. Two ponds will be located on the lower slopes, adding to the park’s natural charm.

Supporting the environment

Around 2,000 new woodland trees are proposed along the northern boundary, creating a beautiful new area of woodland that will boost biodiversity by safeguarding and encouraging wildlife, whilst benefitting the environment by helping to capture carbon.

Connecting the community

Highfield Park has been designed to be within quick and easy access to homes and within five minutes’ walk of the local centre at Orchard Grove. New footpaths will create walking routes that weave through the park and connect to the existing public right of way – enabling better links to the surrounding area and making this a space for everyone to enjoy.

Progress so far

Currently, Highfield Park has seen seating and benches installed, marking an important milestone in its development. Landscaping improvements are planned for the coming months to ensure the park reaches its full potential. New grass seeding will take place over the summer to ensure optimal growing conditions, whilst tree replacement work is scheduled for late autumn, during the appropriate planting season. This approach ensures the long-term success of the park’s natural environment.

The map shows Highfield Park’s location at the north-east corner of the development, perfectly positioned to take advantage of the elevated terrain and stunning views across the surrounding landscape.
