Orchard Grove has been selected as one of six priority sites nationwide to receive support from the Government’s New Homes Accelerator programme, aimed at speeding up housing delivery across England.
The specialist programme, which has already helped unlock almost 100,000 homes in its first year of operation, will now provide targeted support to expedite the delivery of over 12,000 homes across the six selected sites, with at least 25% affordable housing guaranteed. The New Homes Accelerator tackles specific planning and regulatory challenges that have been holding back large housing developments, working with councils and developers to remove bottlenecks and get construction moving more quickly. The programme provides additional planning capacity and removes regulatory hurdles to ensure developments progress as intended.
“We’ve rolled up our sleeves and are breaking down the barriers which stop us from building the houses to buy and rent that families and young people need, helping to speed up the delivery of tens of thousands of new homes already,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary Angela Rayner.
Statement from the Orchard Grove Consortium:
The Orchard Grove Consortium – comprising leading housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Vistry Group in a joint venture with LiveWest – will have support from the Government’s New Homes Accelerator programme to expedite the delivery of Orchard Grove.
The Government has selected the Comeytrowe based development as one of six priority sites for this national initiative – and the only one in the South West.
This recognition demonstrates the Government’s support for our vision and is a vote of confidence in our ability to deliver the homes, jobs and economic growth that Taunton and the wider region needs.
We welcome the Government’s decisive action and look forward to working closely with the expert team to unlock the full potential of Orchard Grove as we deliver 2,000 high-quality homes alongside vital infrastructure.
The New Homes Accelerator’s targeted support will help overcome the planning and regulatory challenges that can impact large-scale developments, enabling us to advance the delivery of much-needed homes – including a substantial proportion of affordable housing – for families in Somerset.
We are excited to contribute to the ambitious 1.5 million homes target while creating a vibrant new community that will be a positive addition to the region.
