Pupils from Orchard Grove Primary School have joined forces with Greenlands Meadow – the new care home under construction at Orchard Grove – to bury a time capsule, which won’t be opened for another 50 years.

Members of the school’s School Council visited the care home to take part in the project. They filled the capsule with their own work, ideas and predictions about what the world might look like in 2076.

As part of the visit, the children thought about what life is like today, how the world might change in the years ahead, and how Greenlands Meadow and the wider Orchard Grove community can work together to bring different generations closer.

To give future readers a real snapshot of life in 2026, Callum Pearce, Commissioning Manager at Greenlands Meadow, added a letter to the future. He also included some everyday items: a shopping receipt, a postage stamp, British coins and notes, and photographs of the care home. Whoever opens the capsule in 2076 may well find these familiar objects look very different from their own.

A commemorative plaque now marks the spot in the care home’s grounds, so visitors can see where this little piece of local history lies. Greenlands Meadow hopes the project is the start of a lasting partnership with the school, built on friendship, shared experiences and connections between young and older members of the community.
