Housebuilders and their suppliers have come to the rescue of the development’s primary school after plans to create a new outdoor learning space hit an unexpected snag.
Back in July, Orchard Grove Primary School received welcome news – they had been awarded a grant to purchase a storage shed and outdoor classroom for their nature area. However, the project soon ran into difficulties when the grass area needed a concrete base, and their original contractor had to pull out at the last minute.
With the classroom due to be delivered and built during the school summer holidays in August, staff were concerned it would have nowhere to go. The base needed to be 12 x 22 feet, and whilst not particularly deep, would have been difficult to complete by hand. Access was also challenging due to newly planted hedging in the area.
The school reached out to the developers at Orchard Grove for help, and Vistry Group – which includes Bovis Homes and Linden Homes – quickly saved the day. They engaged the site’s longstanding groundwork team, Groundfix, to complete the work, ensuring the school could press ahead with their plans in time for the new academic year.
Clare Strange at Orchard Grove Primary School, said: “With Vistry’s support, we were lucky enough to have Groundfix help us out – and we want to pass on our thanks to all involved. As concrete bases go, it’s beautiful!”
The storage shed and outdoor classroom now have a firm foundation, ready to provide pupils with an enhanced nature area where they can enjoy outdoor learning throughout the year.
The support demonstrates the strong partnership between the Orchard Grove development and the local community, with developers actively working to support local facilities and initiatives.
