September at Orchard Grove has seen good progress continue across the development, as the site moves from the dry conditions of summer into wetter autumn weather.
The recent rainfall has been a welcome boost for grass and wildflower areas that struggled to establish over the summer, with signs of green already returning in a number of locations, including Civic Square. Additional reseeding is being carried out where growth was slower to take hold, and we look forward to seeing these areas continue to recover over the coming weeks. At Highfield Park, the area around the young tree continues to look smart and tidy, with landscaping there now nearing completion.
The change in weather has also given the site’s drainage network its first proper test since installation. A number of drainage basins across the development have been holding water as designed following the recent heavy rain, with levels remaining well within safe limits. The shift from dry to wet conditions has highlighted a few areas where protective measures around the basins need attention after months of dry weather, and this maintenance work is now underway to keep the drainage system in good order.
Progress continues in the employment land area, where the footpath connecting through to Manor Park is moving ahead well. Work on the new care home is now largely complete, with the site being tidied ahead of its opening later this month.
The road network across Orchard Grove remains in good condition, with no significant issues identified, and road sweeping and gully cleaning continue on a regular basis to keep the site clean and drainage flowing freely.
The main area needing attention this month was Pocket Park, where the dog waste bin was found overflowing and a nearby litter bin nearing capacity – both have now been addressed. More generally, litter has become more visible since the wildflower areas were cut back for the season, and a litter pick has been carried out across the site this week. As always, we’d ask residents to continue making use of the litter and dog waste bins provided.
