Orchard Grove residents are invited to join the countywide festivities as Somerset Day returns on the weekend of 10-11 May, with more events than ever before planned across the region.

Somerset Day Weekend Set to Shine

Communities across the region are preparing to celebrate all things Somerset during the exciting Somerset Day weekend. This year’s festivities promise to be bigger and better than ever, with residents, businesses, and organisations encouraged to fly the flag for Somerset and join in the celebrations.

The festivities will officially begin on Sunday 4th May with a Civic Service of Choral Evensong at Taunton Minster, setting a ceremonial and reflective tone for the week ahead. As we move towards the weekend, Somerset will come alive with vibrant events showcasing the county’s rich culture, heritage, and local produce.

What’s On for Somerset Day Weekend?

Key highlights for this year’s celebration include:

  • The Big Somerset Picnic (Saturday 10th or Sunday 11th May) – A countywide initiative encouraging families, friends, and communities to come together for picnics in parks, gardens, and local landmarks, celebrating Somerset’s stunning scenery and local food while raising funds for local causes.
  • Barrel & Bloom Festival (Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May) – New for this year, a day of local music, food and drink, and entertainment for the whole family. Hosted at Rich’s Cider Farm, this Somerset Day festival is not to be missed. It will include An Evening with The Wurzels, one of the most anticipated events of the weekend, featuring beloved hits like “Combine Harvester” and “I Am A Cider Drinker” in what promises to be a foot-stomping celebration of Somerset’s unique character.
  • eat:Taunton (Saturday 10th May) – A must-visit for food lovers! This popular food and drink festival will showcase the best of Somerset’s independent producers, offering delicious local delicacies, artisan treats, and an opportunity to meet the makers behind the county’s fantastic food scene. It will take place around Taunton minster, Hammet Street and all the way up East Street
  • Cider & Cheese Trails – Food and drink enthusiasts can follow these popular trails featuring the county’s finest producers.
  • Arts and Makers Markets – Pop-up markets and exhibitions showcasing the talents of local artists and craftspeople across the county.

Additional activities include guided walks through our beautiful countryside, family-friendly storytelling sessions, wildlife encounters, traditional village fetes, and special open days at heritage sites throughout the weekend. History enthusiasts can step back in time with living history experiences and demonstrations at open heritage sites across the county.
