Orchard Grove residents will soon benefit from a new, environmentally-friendly transport link, as First Bus introduces electric bus services to the development starting on 20th April 2025.

The 22 service will connect Orchard Grove to Taunton, Wellington, and surrounding areas with buses running every 15 minutes. This frequent service marks a significant milestone for the growing community, providing convenient public transport options for residents and visitors alike.

Reinforcing Orchard Grove’s sustainability commitments, the new service will use state-of-the-art electric vehicles, contributing to improved air quality and reduced emissions. This environmentally conscious approach complements the development’s green ethos, which already features Somerset’s first carbon neutral school.

The new service is part of a wider rollout of electric buses across Somerset, with First Bus introducing electric vehicles to several routes including all town centre services in Taunton. This initiative has been developed in partnership with Somerset Council and the Somerset Bus Partnership.

Terrance James, Head of Network for First Bus in Somerset, said: “We’ve listened to what our customers are telling us and we’ve added connections like the new housing estate at Orchard Grove. With brand new electric buses about to enter service for the first time across our network in Somerset, we’re excited for our passengers to experience these new vehicles.”

The 22/22A/X22/22C route will serve Taunton, Rockwell Green, Wellington, Tonedale and Tiverton, with all variations of the 22 service stopping at Orchard Grove Housing Estate. Timetables have been revised to improve reliability, which remains a key priority for the bus operator. Residents are encouraged to check the First Bus Somerset website for full timetable details before travelling when the new services come into effect.

This new transport link represents another step forward in Orchard Grove’s development as a connected, sustainable community for the future.
