Just in time for summer, Orchard Grove’s first public park has opened. The new open space has a place for children to play, along with picturesque planting and places to relax. Known as ‘Pocket Park’, this is the first of many open and accessible green spaces within the development
At the top of the new park is a 400sqm play area, packed full of children’s play equipment. Harnessing natural materials throughout, it has equipment for sliding, climbing swinging, rotating and rocking – including a central piece of ‘multi-play’ equipment featuring a slide and climbing wall.
The playground is set within a much bigger area, carefully created to echo and celebrate the Somerset surroundings. With nature in mind, there are plants for pollinators, ornamental grasses, tree-lined hedgerows, perennials and wildflower meadows – forming a beautiful and biodiverse space.
Living up to its name, the first park at Orchard Grove has Flowering Crab Apples, Cherry Blossom, Ornamental Cherries, and Winter Orange trees. Residents can relax and enjoy the surroundings, with seating, benches and picnic spots. Pedestrian and cycle paths wind through the space and connect to the wider community and local area.
Designed with the great outdoors at its heart, as part of the green vision for the new 2,000-home community, there will eventually be 100-acres of open spaces and parks spread across the new development.
In time, the new community will also have sports pitches and allotments, connected by a variety of green corridors and sustainable travel routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
The opening of Pocket Park marks the start of this roll-out of green space for residents and local families to enjoy and benefit from.
