This month sees the continuation of work to prepare the site, with more cut and fill earthworks taking place as the weather allows.
An exciting step forward, this month Taylor Wimpey arrives on site, so you can expect to see more contractors, new flags and signage. While this signifies the start of work on the first 70 homes, initial work will involve readying the area for building, putting in roads and drainage – it will still be some time until bricks are laid and houses appear.
Groundwork investigations and technical surveys will take place across the site, including where the new primary school is set to be located. Last month, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet unanimously backed recommendations to deliver a new 420-place primary school and nursery at Orchard Grove. It is hoped that this will be open ready for admissions in September 2022.
As previously communicated, the site continues to adhere to Government guidelines on Covid-19, construction is continuing at Comeytrowe in a controlled and managed way, with safe operating procedures continually monitored.
